The SuPorts project first annual conference was held in Santiago de Compostela, Spain on the 8th of November 2011. Political personalities who were at the basis of the project have come for the event. M. Didier Marie, The Seine-Maritime County Council President went to open the conference. Moreover, the Galician minister of the Sea, Mrs Rosa Quintana, in charge of ports management through the public entity Portos de Galicia, came to close the event.
Being focused on improving sustainable management in local ports, the conference brought around sixty experts and port managers together for one day of dense content.
Indeed, the attendees had the pleasure to listen to a presentation on small scale pollutions in harbour areas (By the CEDRE), one on the concept of industrial ecology in ports (Ecole des mines d’Alès), several presentations by Spanish speakers respectively on Energy savings in ports (INEGA), Global waste management (CETMAR) as well as the implementation of a data base on marine and coastal data in Galicia (INTECMAR).
2 other presentations focused on industrial innovations for ports activities.
These good practices shared during the conference, as well as other practices identified through the project’s life, will be the basis for a scrapbook composed of the best environmental practices related to ports activities. The latter will then be shared to all European ports willing to find ideas to improve their own port policy.
